Need to replace the brake drums on my Dana 60 I just bought any info on this process would be helpful
What you needing to know Andy?
If you need anything you have my number right? I should have a few of them in my stock piles.....
Need to get the brake drums off never messed with one heard you had to take the axles out just didn't wanna waste a bunch of time doing that if it wasn't necessary
It's been a few years but if I recall correctly pull the 8 axle bolts then take a nut off and the drum will slide off....
Thats what it looked like to me but was told different and read you had to pull axles and press out wheel studs or something
yep
A Dana 60 Pinion brake will help save you some time...... just a suggestion.

might be for a driver.... since they put them in about everything....
I got them off had to pull axles Haha tude its defiantly for a smasher but brakes are junk depending on the price for parts I may lean towards the pinion brake any idea on what kinda car parts they are using to make these
Ford Escort and Contour parts.
Winslow sells one that bolts to the housing. Raptor fab sells on the bolts to a weld on bracket that goes on the centersection. I have the raptor fab set up and absolutely love it. I had the Winslow Ford nine pinion brake and it worked great. Hope that helps. I think Winslow's is 150 plus brake parts.
I have access to a mill and drill I thought is just make one myself but didn't know what make and model of parts I needed to buy I read it on the old site somewhere but can't remember what it was escort or something I thought
Well if you ditch the idea of the pinion brake and need anything I still should have some parts lol.
I'm just gunna put new shoes and wheel cylinders on it but the only thing I'm concerned with now is its out of a camper and the center section sets bout 5 inches to the right of center didn't know if this is normal for some of these or if this is something specific to the campers drive line
if thats out of a camper you may have a 70... im sure you looked for the number on the houseing though.
the offset will be fine, thats what u-joints are for. just if you break an axle it will be a little harder to find.
Yea after an hour and 1/2 I got sick of wire brushing trying to find even a hint of a number and just called up the part store and found out what I could measure and I thought it may be a 70 also but brake parts are compatible
Look on the corners of the Pumpkin or just above the pinion. Those are the 2 places I remember seeing them. I may have a picture of one from my stash.
By the way Dana 70 axles are monster compared to Dana 60..... It's like a half dollar compared to a quarter type of difference.
And when you pull the axles if I recall there are cone shaped washer things that suck. If I remember right hit the axle with a hammer and they will loosen up.
The first time I tried pulling one apart I messed with it for like 3 hours before I ended up just cutting the housing apart ( only was after the gears)
Haha those bastards got the best of me to then dad showed up and three taps he had them out
Ya, really easy once you figure the stupid things out.... But not knowing about them really sucks..... Maybe I should have said something about them in my 1st post.... Ehhh oh well to late now
