I'm doing some more welding on the pointy I just got its a 74imp pointy and I just welded the bottom tin the the backing. Now my question is has anyone ever folded this piece down to the main beam and welded it? Or would it loose strength?
if your talking about welding the chrome to the main piece of the bumper then it will not lose strength it should help it
I have just done that. Now the piece that I welded it to ir thicker steel the angles down and back from main beam on bottom of bumper. If I were to bend this down to main beam and weld it would it loose strength?
Yes, it makes it stronger!
What about running them with out the angle piece? Mine was broke off does it give enough strength to worry about finding a piece to fit?
The centers are strong in them. It probably does help some, but the center of the pointy is probably the hardest center of any bumper.
the angle bar in the center does help, but ive only seen one pointy bend in the center bad enough to wear the bar was severly bent, and it was done in two hits.....it helps but not nessacary, and ive had tech people that arent pointy savvy accuse me of adding that bar so if you weld one back in people might think its not stock if they dont know what there looking at.
Before you re-weld it bolt some new bolts between the bumper guards. You will need 6 7/16s bolts about 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 inch long.

also bolt the ends together where you cut it off, even if you weld it still add bolts.
The support beam helps more than you think, its twice as sturdy than the ny's and it helps from curling them.
Ok thanx for the tips I will defiantly add bolts and if I think I can make it look stock I'll reweld one on if not I guess we're gonnatry it with out
If your not runnin "hard" cars you'll prolly be ok.
Trucks and no frame wielding and only outer seams however the last show of the year is a no rules show but the bumper will have some extra support for that
I just spent 3.5 hrs welding up my "holy" pointy. I actually think the ones with the vent holes are tougher than solid pointies when welded up as there are so many seams and metal folds.
Can you plate the vents?
i hammered down all chrome and weled, even welded inside the vent holes where i could reach, and put a small strip under the support brace on top. spent about 3 hours welding. and went to a loaded bumper show and drove hard. not a single dent. sweet bumper wish i had a few more
