I want to pick up a fish finder for my spouse as a surprise now that taxes are in the bank account. I know ice season is almost over, but I am looking for one for next year. He takes the kids out almost every weekend, but what fun is it when you can't catch a fish? So I thought a fish finder would make it better for everyone.
Can you give me suggestions as I am NOT a fisher"person"?? Brands to stay away from, brands you like?

I would go with a Vexilar! they come in I think 3 models. the fl8 fl18 and the fl20. I have the fl8 and it works fine, but i wish I had the fl20. You could also go with a Marcum but they are pretty expensive.
I have heard a lot of good things about Vexilar products.

I currently am using the vexlar fl8 but for the price I would go with a Marcum, you get more options for your money.
The showdown is a nice unit I also have a hummingbird but I would go with vexi before I bought a hummingbird again but I like my showdown a lot .
i dont know much about marcums or hummingbirds but i have a vexilar fl18 and i am very happy with it.
