How well do these work with out being a slider
on a GM or vick style steering,,, you need 2 joints,,, and it has to slide,,,, If it don't .. it will break,,, or shove the steering wheel in your face,,,,,,

Having a colapsable section in your steering setup is not mandatory, however it certianlly is the safest and cheapest route.
^^^ I agree. Do you have the stock colapsing piece, Cut out or melt the plastic ( if it has it ) and use some of that if money is tight or you cant find one. 3-5 inches of travel should be fine.
It's on a truck 78 f250 4x4 box frame rail so I don't think it will come at me to much but no collapsible piece
