how would u guys do a tailgate on a 73 chevy, my rules only allow it either fully welded or removed completely, but it says nothing about stock position... looking at running one, got a preran 74 newport bumper ima put on the front of it, any other tips are helpful, didnt really ever look at trucks on the old wecrash and this one is bare so far

Definitely run tailgate around here we drop the tailgaits down just below the frame rails and weld it solid inside and out it keeps the boxsides together. The front bumper I run Monte bumpers on them or a Ford bumper the framerails tend to go sideways if you don't hit square. Box in the steering box area.
Also is it a 1/2 or 3/4 ton?

3/4 ton 2wd

I bolt the box to the frame and add plates on all bolts. Weld the box to the cab, weld the doors solid and doghouse solid trim up in front of the tires for clearence. Weld the radiator saddle. Put your crush cage in LOW because like it has been said many times before. Trucks hit low.

Personally I would weld the box to the cab because bolting it I've seen cabs get ripped off.

i dont think they will get to picky on me, im in pretty good with the crew that runs all the derbys around here, plus they usually only have like 3 pickups show up usually, i guess ill find out tomorow... mine will be for next year but i wanna build it over winter

Has anyone ever ran an 85 chev, I need to know where all the weak spots are and how to stiffen the truck up more than it already is.
